Saintly Mock Draft

With the draft order almost set here’s a premature mock draft. Since I don’t expect too much movement in free agency because of the current conditions in the CBA. But there could be some significant trades made so all of this is certain to change.

  1. St. Louis Rams – Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska – Clearly the #1 guy on the draft board and fills a need for the Rams. Check & Checkmate. Done. I’d expect the Rams to try and sign him before the draft.
  2. Detroit Lions – Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma – The Lions could go OL but McCoy is a more special player than any of the top OLs. So unless they trade down it should be McCoy and possibly Eric Berry.
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Eric Berry, S, Tennessee – Since the Bucs play so many top running teams from the NFC South they would just love to have Suh or McCoy fall to them. But Eric Berry is a nice concession prize for a Secondary that needs some more youth and playmaking ability since Aquib Talib has had troubles on and off the field.
  4. Washington Redskins – Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame – Mike Shannahan would like to get Clausen to put into his West Coast flavor offense. Sam Bradford is probably the highest rated QB but Clausen makes more sense for Mike.
  5. Kansas City Chiefs – Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State – The Chiefs think they have their QB, RB, and WR set so it makes sense to get the top OL prospect to make sure those skill players become more effective.
  6. Seattle Seahawks – Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma – The QB situation in Seattle is a mess and Bradford would go a long way to fixing those issues.
  7. Cleveland Browns - Joe Haden, CB, Florida – Missed out on Clausen & Bradford so Mangini goes with his defense trying to find the next Darrell Revis and will try to steal a QB in the 2nd round.
  8. Oakland Raiders – ???, ??, ??? – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers – To almost everyone the Raiders OL is a joke and should be addressed immediately. But who knows what’s going on in Al Davis’ whacked out mind.
  9. Buffalo Bills – Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa - They traded away Jason Peters and weren’t able to replace him. Although Dez Bryant is also very likely should they wanna say bye-bye to TO.
  10. Denver Broncos (f/Bears) - Colt McCoy, QB, Texas – No secret that Kyle Orton wasn’t Josh McDaniel’s 2nd or 3rd or 4th choice to be his guy at QB. So look for them to get someone they can groom and keep Brandon Marshall happy.
  11. Jacksonville Jaguars – Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech – I almost want to put Tim Tebow here cause I know how badly the owner needs to sell tickets. But the sensible pick would be the top pass rusher in the draft.
  12. Miami Dolphins – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State – The Dolphins offense was missing a big time WR for most of the season. Dez will put a quick end to that problem.
  13. San Francisco 49ers – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma – An OT that can play both sides would be very usefull for the 49ers who need to beef up their OL if they ever want their offense to become legit.
  14. Seattle Seahawks (f/Broncos) – CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson - The Seahawks running game is not threatening at all. CJ Spiller would automatically change that. CJ would be Pete Carroll’s Reggie Bush to Sam Bradford’s Matt Lienart.
  15. New York Giants – Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama – The linebacker spot was troublesome for the Giants this past season. McClain is a force to be dealt with and will improve their group immediately.
  16. Tennessee Titans – Jason Pierre Paul, DE, South Florida – Personally I think this guy belongs up there with Suh in terms of the impact he can bring to any 1 game. The Titans need help in the pass rush and pass coverage department. JPP defintelly has the talent to become a dominant pass rusher.
  17. San Francisco 49ers – Taylor Mays, S, USC – The 49ers couldn’t stop passing teams from doing pretty much whatever they wanted. Taylor Mays will become a leader for that secondary and Mike Singletary will make sure Mays completes that defense.
  18. Pittsburgh Steelers – Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas – The Steelers defense relied too much on Troy Polamalu and needs more pressure on the QB to be a great defense again. Sergio would fit well in the Steelers system and would become a fan favorite for his non-stop motor.
  19. Atlanta Falcons – Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida – Would be a perfect strong-side compliment to sack-artist John Abraham. Has 3-4 DE size with speed to rush the QB. Will fix a lot of what’s wrong with the Falcons defense by stopping the run and making things a little easier on Abraham in the pass rush department.
  20. Houston Texans – Jahvid Best, RB, California – If the Texans can’t acquire a RB they believe they can count on in free-agency/trades then they will go early on a RB to complete their offense. They got a few holes on defense but have enough playmakers to make up for it at this point in the draft.
  21. Cincinnati Bengals – Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame – Unless the Bengals somehow merc Terrell Owens for a season they will be looking to find a WR to make their passing game more potent. Golden Tate would be a nice compliment to Chad Ocho-Cinco. Chad usually doesn’t score that many TDs and Tate has a knack for it. He looks a lot like Miles Austin when he has the ball in his hands. Will need to polish up his route running to make it big in the NFL.
  22. New England Patriots – Terrence “Mount” Cody, DT, Alabama – I’d think they realize what a mistake it was to trade Richard Seymour away and will try to add some beef up front to replace him.
  23. Green Bay Packers – Ricky Sapp, OLB, Clemson – Clay Matthews is a keeper on one side of the defense, BJ Raji is a keeper in the middle, and Ricky Sapp should fit in nice on the other side where Aaron Kampman was not.
  24. Philadelphia Eagles – Sean Witherspoon, OLB, Missouri – The Eagles LB situation was the weak spot on the team. They’ll be looking to remedy that. They have some other needs on the line of scrimmage but at this point of the draft LB gives them the most value.
  25. Baltimore Ravens – Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois – When Ray Rice is your most consistant threat in the passing game you need more punch in that department. Benn might be a bit of a stretch here but close enough for a need reach like the Ravens have.
  26. Arizona Cardinals – Tony Pike, QB, Cincinnati – With Kurt Warner gone and Matt Lienart being a bust it’s about time to think of getting a real QB to go with your passing offense. They do need help on the OL but the NFL is a QB league now and Pike is everything the Cardinals could want in a QB.
  27. Dallas Cowboys – Earl Thomas, FS, Texas – He’s the closest thing to Ed Reed that I’ve seen since. Is a fundamentally sound safety, is a real quick learner, a leader on the field, and is always making big plays. Should give us everything that Ken Hamlin did and much, much more. Could be the player to take this defense from one of the best to one of the greats.
  28. San Diego Chargers – Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech – If the Chargers expect to replace LT’s production inside the redzone then Dwyer is their guy for sure. A productive RB with a nose for the endzone would be what they’re lookin for.
  29. New York Jets – Corey Wooten, DE, Northwestern – The top 3-4 DE prospect in the draft. Would’ve likely been a Top 10 prospect if he didn’t have a serious injury in the bowl game of his Junior season. That gave him a slow start to his Senior season.
  30. Minnesota Vikings – Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee – Thought it’d be funny to replace the 38-year old P at Williams with a Dan Williams to go next to Kevin Williams. QB is obviously a top need as well but I think they’ll try for a Jevan Snead in the 2nd round.
  31. Indianapolis Colts – Brian Price, DT, UCLA – The Colts run defense was one of the worst in the league. They severely need to upgrade the middle of their defense since they can’t count on Bob Sanders to save the day every year.
  32. New Orleans Saints – Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland – Roughly the only thing keeping the Saints from having an unstoppable offense is their OL. Their pass protection broke down towards the end of the year. They could also go DB here since their CB depth was exposed.

Round 2

  1. St. Louis Rams – Tim Tebow, QB, Florida – I figure someone will take a chance on him and the Rams can buy a few years to groom him. It’s a big gamble though for a rebuilding team.
  2. Detroit Lions – Mike Iupati, OG/OT, Idaho – They need some help on the OL to open up running lanes and protect their big money QB. Iupati gives them some flexibility on where to play him.
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Jason Fox, OT, Miami – A big, big dude to retool their OL. Their QB will need all the help he can get.
  4. Kansas City Chiefs – Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma – Never got to replace Tony Gonzales but they do now with the top TE in the draft.
  5. Washington Redskins – Charles Brown, OT, USC – The Redskins OL was absolutely horrible. If Shannahan wants any success he’s got to upgrade his OL.
  6. Cleveland Browns – Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU – Don’t think they’re totally ready to give up on Bradie Quinn so they’ll try to get him a big target to work with.
  7. Oakland Raiders – Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State – Improving the run defense will be a priority. Odrick is a big beast of a man who could help next to Richard Seymour.
  8. Seattle Seahawks – Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State – CB got hit hard for the Seahawks and they need to improve the quality. Robinson is touted as the best CB to come from FSU since Deion Sanders.
  9. Buffalo Bills – Morgan Burnett, S, Georgia Tech – Donte Whitner hasn’t had the impact Bills fans want and Chan Gailey may be looking to some of his college players to turn the Bills around.
  10. New England Patriots (f/Jaguars) - Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma State – The Patriots got burnt on defense quite a bit last year. They’ll look to Perrish to help prevent as many big plays.
  11. Miami Dolphins – Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida – Had some issues off the field but Parcells has gambled on troubled LBers in the past and will look for Spikes to replace Joey Porter, whose been stuck in the doghouse, production.
  12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (f/Bears) – Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse – Fits the mold of a Tampa DT to the letter. Average size with good burst.
  13. Denver Broncos – Dominique Franks, CB, Oklahoma - The CB depth became an issue later in the season and they need some more youth in the Secondary.
  14. New York Giants – Chad Jones, S, LSU – The only safety they had mentioning was Kenny Phillips and he was injured most the year. The Giants secondary got chewed up late in the year and Chad Jones should upgrade their unit.
  15. Carolina Panthers – Damian Williams, WR, USC – They need someone other than Steve Smith to throw the ball to. QB is a need but they may wait for the 2nd rush on QBs to get one.
  16. New England Patriots (f/Titans) – Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State – The Pats have been ignoring their running game of late and should try to improve it with some fresh legs.
  17. San Francisco 49ers – Eric Norwood, ILB, South Carolina – To get a compliment like Norwood to play next to Patrick Willis would make the 49ers rush defense a formidable one.
  18. Kansas City Chiefs (f/Falcons) – Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida – The top center of the draft is a very large center. Would go a long way to improving the Chiefs OL.
  19. Houston Texans – Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama – One of the weak spots on the Texans D is their CB spot. Jackson is an experienced and solid choice for them.
  20. Pittsburgh Steelers – Nate Allen, S, South Florida – Troy Polamalu is getting older and they could afford to upgrade over Ryan Clark.
  21. Cincinnati Bengals – Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State – The Bengals secondary can stand to use an upgrade. At worst Wilson provides quality depth.
  22. New England Patriots – Daryl Washington, ILB, TCU – The Pats need to add some youth to the LB group and hopefully some more pressure on the QB.
  23. Green Bay Packers – Vladamir Ducasse, OT, Massachusetts – Giving up almost 60 sacks is way too much. They need some help there.
  24. Philadelphia Eagles – Jon Asamoah, OG, Illinois – Should shore up their interior line problems.
  25. Baltimore Ravens – Larry Asante, S, Nebraska – If Ed Reed retires they’d have lost their starting safeties in back-to-back seasons.
  26. Arizona Cardinals – Joe McKnight, RB, USC – Once again the Cards try to find a running game.
  27. Dallas Cowboys – Dexter McCluster, RB/WR, Ole Miss – Is truly a hybrid of player in the mold of Reggie Bush. Good enough hands to be considered a WR but his vision and running skills are so good that using him at RB is an option. Mardy Gilyard is another option if you feel that Patrick Crayton’s time as a Cowboy is nearing an end. But I like the flexibility McCluster gives. Can step-in as a part-time RB, can split-out wide, can return kicks. He’ll be our Jack-of-all-Trades-Master-of-None type of player like Reggie Bush is for the Saints…but at a much cheaper price.
  28. San Deigo Chargers – Major Wright, S, Florida – Big plays were a plauge for the Chargers. Safety or Corner help would go a long way in curing that plague.
  29. New York Jets – Reshed Jones, S, Georgia – Brings some attitude to the secondary that Rex Ryan will only cultivate and put to good use.
  30. Minnesota Vikings – Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss – They gambled and got Snead to take over the Favre era…which could be now for all we know.
  31. Indianapolis Colts – Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan – Stopping the run and covering top WRs is the weakness of the Colts. Their top 2 picks should go towards upgrading those problem areas.
  32. New Orleans Saints – Jerome Murphy, CB, South Florida – The depth at CB got tested and they’d like not to make that mistake again.

Round 3

Dallas Cowboys – OL – I got Dallas looking OL in the 3rd round. I believe the Cowboys have 1 good year, maybe 2, with their starting OL left and then it might be time to look for a change. Doug Free showed a lot of promise and if given time at his more natural LT spot he might can fill Flozell’s shoes. Robert Brewster will be back from rehab bigger and stronger and the knowledge of the playbook. So maybe he can fill in for Colombo when the time is right. Leonard Davis is fine. Andre Gurode is doing alright. Could stand to improve over Kyle Kosier but he’s got good chemistry so there’s no huge rush on that.

Some OL prospects in the 3rd round could be John Jerry, OG, Mississippi. He’s a big boy at 6′5″ 348. Andre Gurode would start lookin like a munchkin between him and Bigg Davis. Ciron Black, OT, LSU is a massive tackle at 6′5″ 320. Kyle Calloway, OT, from Iowa is a 6′7″ 318 project.

Other Needs:

Nose Tackle – Mount Cody is the premier NT of the draft. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t other massive space eaters that could help out Jay Ratliff. There’s Kade Wilson from Georgia who is 6′5″ 325. Or Cam Thomas from North Carolina who comes in at 6′3″ 330. Linval Joseph from East Carolina is another big boy at 6″6″ 322. Oklahoma’s DeMarcus Granger is 6′2″ 327.

Full Back – Toby Gerhart is the only one really worth mentioning. But I do think that Dallas did pretty well with another running FB from Stanford who can play a little RB. The last one was Moose Johnston. I couldn’t hate on a draft move like that if he’s still around in the 3rd round somehow.

Outside Linebacker – Dallas got lucky that Anthony Spencer & DeMarcus Ware were able to take almost every snap. While Victor Butler had his moments and there was a lot of hope for Brandon Williams you still gotta hedge your bet against the worst possible scenarios. I’m not sure who to look at right now in the later stages of the draft but from the 4th round on I’d expect to see a few LB’ers taken.

Defensive End – I didn’t see enough production from Marcus Spears and Jason Hatcher. I liked what Spears did in his contract season and would like to see him around for a lil while. But Hatcher was disappointing for me. Get someone in who can put a lil pressure on Hatcher and even Stephen Bowen…and maybe even take Spears’ starting job one day.

Cornerback – Probably like the 7th round type of deal where you’re rolling the dice that so-and-so can come in and be better than Alan Ball.

Wide Reciever – I only put this down as the Undrafted Free Agent category. I think the Cowboys are kinda happy with the WR group right now. Miles Austin is the #1 WR, Roy is the #2 for now and hopefully improves with Romo, Crayton is the #3 guy untill Kevin Ogletree is ready to step up, Sam Hurd is a reliable backup for all the WR spots. But you may want some more WRs to get some training camp reps.

Recap:

I find it kinda amusing that early in the football year Shango and I were talking about possible NT prospects for Dallas. I told him to watch out for Gerald McCoy and he said look out for Ndamukong Suh. And now they might go 1-2 in the draft. But as far as the Cowboys are concerned there are a couple of scenarios I could be happy with.

Trade MB3, 1st round pick, and a 3rd for the 49ers pick to take CJ Spiller. No doubt CJ could do everything Dexter McCluster could do for the Cowboys but also bring the size to realistically carry the load if needed.

Stay relatively put…maybe trade up or down a few spots…and go with a combination of Earl Thomas/Mount Cody & Dexter McCluster/Mardy Gilyard

Saint Jimmy Picks the Saints

I believe that Payton…Sean Payton…will have something special in the gameplan for the Colts. Also think that Gregg Williams will slow down Peyton Manning just enough for the Saints to win. I expect a crazy scoring game since both offenses are so good. There won’t be many defensive stops and I don’t think the Colts have the defense to stop the Saints consistantly.

Choice to the Chargers?

My good homegirl TxShelbyTx pointed me out to a hot rumor of the offseason. It was a straight up Tashard Choice for Antonio Cromartie trade. I don’t believe a single word of it for many reasons.

The main reason is that you don’t trade a serviceable CB for a RB unless you’re Dumbass Danny Snyder. Good CBs are very hard to find whereas a good RB is pretty easy find in any round of the draft. The other reason is while it’s a pretty intriguing offer for the Cowboys I think it’s the wrong RB. If any RB is going to get traded it would be Marion Barber.

But the Cowboys know that they will need all 3 guys. They’ve needed all 3 the past 2 years so why would they think that is going to change next year. Barber, Felix, and even Tashard will unfortunately likely miss a few games. Although I do have to admit that having 3 starting caliber RBs on the roster could have bad effects in the lockeroom.

The 2nd reason I’m not feelin this rumor is what would Cromartie bring to us? I’m the 1st one to tell ya that you can’t have enough talented CBs on a team. I tried to make that point when Cromartie was a draftee but people were desperate for Bobby Carpenter. And while I wouldn’t turn my nose on Cromartie, even though he had a bad year, I gotta wonder how Cromartie would fit in. Unless Wade thinks he can make him into a FS his playing time would be limited.

I understand giving up on Alan Ball, at least as a CB, and wanting a proven CB as your 4th guy if you plan on making a Superbowl Push in your hometown. But is Cromartie the guy? I suppose when you consider his experience with Wade’s defense he’s as good as anyone else that could be available. And since Orlando hasn’t exactly been annoited as Newman’s Replacement it’d be good to have some competition there.

But I’m not trying to build up credibility for this rumor. I find it interesting what the implications could mean.

Are the coaches really that concerned about the depth in the secondary? Could this mean that Wade and the Cowboys Scouts are licking their chops at the FS class? I’m almost certain that they are. They know that Alan Ball is going to get picked on and used just as Jacques Reeves was 2 years ago if he’s forced into the 3rd CB spot. If they can’t trade for Cromartie or somehow find an Aaron Glenn type of veteran in free agency then look for CB to be higher on the needs list than anticipated. But almost certainly the Cowboys would like to have a chance at the 2nd or 3rd best FS in the draft.

Are they really trying to trade away Marion Barber or Tashard Choice? What does this mean for the draft? I’m thinkin if they trade away one of their RBs that they will be looking at a Dexter McCluster type of multi-purpose weapon. They can go back to their more simpler 2007 approach to the running game: Give the starter Jones (this time Felix) 15-20 touches and let Barber/Choice close it out with 10-15 touches. Then you take McCluster and give him about 15-20 snaps a game. Maybe 5-7 snaps at tailback, 5-7 at Wildcat QB, and 5-7 as a WR taking the bubble screens….could even put him back at KR. Kinda use him like we had hoped to use Felix in his rookie season.

The idea of Felix as the starter, Choice as the change of pace and closer, and McCluster as the x-factor back is very interesting to me.

Felix started to make me forget about Chris Johnson…I don’t think I ever will forget but at least Felix was showing me a lot of promise for the future. Felix (and CJ) has the best vision, speed, and lateral movement I’ve seen since Barry Sanders…but unlike Barry they won’t take that many 5 yard losses trying to make a 40 yard play. Felix may be a lil on the small side for a lead back but he’s agile enough that he doesn’t take many bad hits. Just gotta keep his hammy’s in good condition.

Choice may not have that brutal power that MB3 has had (and probably will again) but he can be a very fine closer. He’ll get those tough yards in the redzone and short yardage. And his completeness as a RB would make him a very good compliment to Felix. Teams will have to prepare for all the special things Felix can do while trying to figure out what Choice is in the game for…running, catching, blocking?

Then on top of all that you’ve got this freakish playmaker in McCluster to worry about. Dexter’s vision is what kept Ole Miss from keeping him at WR. His vision along with speed and a low center of gravity with some punch is what made him able to tote the rock at his size. But he can catch the ball too with 88 receptions in the last 2 years (44 a piece). So you’ve got Felix/Choice at RB with McCluster in the slot waiting for a bubble screen you’ll make a lot of problems for a defense. You can either try and put a safety on him and watch McCluster shake him for 70 yards. Or put your 3rd CB on him and hope he can make the tackle on a bowling ball type of player or else he’s gone for 70. One thing’s for certain is that when he’s flexed out Felix & Choice would see a lot of 7 man fronts. But you can line him up at RB and see what kind of magic he can make. And if you want an excuse to give him the ball more you let him run the Wildcat.

Tim TeBLOW you crossed a line…

I have always disliked Tim Tebow for being an over-hyped Champion QB. It makes me sick whenever I hear people say how great he’ll be in the NFL when anyone with half a brain can tell that he doesn’t have an NFL arm, is horribly unaccurate even for a COLLEGE quarterback, isn’t fast enough for the NFL, isn’t big enough to be a RB, and likely will never make it as a WR or Wildcat QB. And it absolutely boils my blood that this person so CLEARLY unqualified for the NFL will make ungodly amounts of money. Also, personally I don’t even think he’s the “Greatest College Football Player” since his Florida team was loaded with talent. You put Vince Young on that Gators team and he’d have a MINIMUM of THREE championships…probably even FOUR championships and THREE Hiesman awards.

But now I have a reason to dislike Tim Tebow personally. Previous to the news I just heard I had no qualms with his feverish fanaticism in Christianity. That’s his belief and if he wants to give credit to God then that’s his choice. But now he’s crossed a line so I’m about to cross one.

Tim, I wish your mom aborted you…and if that failed I wish that you died in childbirth. How dare you use the Superbowl to promote your religious agenda concerning abortion!!! I’m generally very respectful with people’s beliefs concerning religion and other taboo topics. But the Superbowl is not the time or place to bring up the discussion of anti-abortion vs. woman’s choice. That is infintely more annoying than Bible Thumpers knocking on my door Sunday morning at 7am. At least when they come to my door I can take pleasure in bitching them out for waking me up for their selfish bullshit. And it’s completely selfish. Do they take into account that some people work late and/or like to sleep in on the weekends? No they don’t. They only care about the joy they get in “spreading the good word.”

Look, I’m watching the Superbowl to be entertained and to take my mind off of heavy topics like abortion, religious fanaticism across the world, unemployment, and all sorts of political issues. But you and your mom signed off on making a Superbowl commercial about the Tim Tebow story.

Tim, I hope (and KNOW) that your NFL career will go down as the “Biggest Draft Day Mistake” since Tony Mandarich or Brian Bosworth. You can take your religious views and shove them up your pansy ass if you go through with this Superbowl commercial.

How’d Ya’ll Like That Homefield Advantage?

Watchin that playoff game against Philly I began to marvel at how it started becoming a war of attrition. I was thinkin, it’s cold as a witch’s titty here in Houston and I know it’s even colder in Dallas so why is everyone panting, sweatin, and having cramps and stuff like it was August?

It’s just another Homefield Advantage. You got the JerryTron hovering in the sky throwing off kickers, returners, and who knows who else. You got huge glass doors to open and get a wind tunnel effect. But now you’ve got a virtual August Day in December because the stadium is what it is.

You pack 95-105k people in there, close all the doors and the roof, then turn on that huge HDTV you’re talking an easy 80+ degrees on the field…muggy too. Just imagine the Giants or Philly having played 2-4 games up in the North East all freezin their asses off and then having to prepare for a game in Dallas that might as well be played in the jungle. Playing down in the South makes the Cowboys more used to them hot and sweaty days.

I luv ya Wade!!

I’m sure a bunch of people have been waiting for this one. Sorry to disappoint but not quite ready to annoint him Coach of the Year just yet. He’s only matched my expectations for this team. Now if he can do the job of keeping the team going right (good practices, good gameplans by your staff, good film study by your players, etc) from here on out then he’ll never hear me say another thing about his job…at least untill the age factor starts making it a question.

I don’t have much doubt that the team will veer off. Wade’s found a good groove. The players are happy. The coaching staff are doing their thangs. Whatever schedule you’ve got everyone on…keep it up. Football Players are Creatures of Routine and whatever routine has been going on it’s been working.

Right now Wade, you’ve got this team like an arrow flying straight into the bullseye. It’s just about there and it’d take somethin crazy and unforseen to happen in order to have that arrow miss the mark. You’re the care-taker of that arrow right now. Just keep that path clear of any bumps or turbulance and the Cowboys should make it to the Superbowl.

If that means having to cool off Barber cause you’re tryin to save him for the final 2 playoff games instead of holding him out of another one…in front of his home crowd. Then you gotta do it. By then we’ll know if Dallas is playing for the Saints on the road or the Cards at home. I’m thinkin since the Cards have some pretty big hitters (Dockery, Dansby, Wilson) then it might be usefull to have a fresh and healtheir Barber to punch them in the mouth a bit. But we don’t need a pouting Barber. We need him to get mad since he’s like the Hulk…the madder he is the better he plays. And sometimes you need players to hate you. At least for a while. Bench Barber and go up to him later saying, “you kinda hate me right now? you’d like to punch me in the gut? now go out there and kill a muthafucka”. You’d be gauranteed at least 1 play of the fiercest Marion Barber we’ve ever seen.

If it means that Wade has to tell Roy Williams to stop having Tony-Tourettes where the media is gonna flip out about it. Then tell him to shut his yip and keep enjoying these playoff wins you never would’ve gotten in Detroit. Luckily should the Cowboys make it to the Superbowl that 2-week national spotlight won’t be as bright with the Pro Bowl to distract the media. I would think those 2 weeks is when Roy would be most likely to make one of his Tony-Gaffes. He’s like Romo’s Joe Biden. But we don’t need any of that…no media fodder.

But Wade, I do love ya. You’re a great man and I couldn’t be happier for you. I’m glad to have seen The Wade Way work. You win this one comin up and you’ll have climbed the Conference Mountain Tops just like your Daddy. And you’ll give Bum a chance to see his Son surpass him which I’m sure would make him very proud…along with us all.

Saintly 2009 Playoff Picks

Saturday:

Arizona Cardinals @ New Orleans Saints – I don’t expect Kurt Warner to have as great of a game as he did. But he will have a good enough game to be considered to have a great playoff run. I believe the Saints fans will create some miscommunications giving their defense a few more stops than the Packers were able to get. The Saints offense though will be too rusty for an aggressive Cardinals defense. They will score their points but the Cards defense will get just enough stops to win the game. 28-24 Cardinals

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts – The Ravens run the ball well enough to make it a close game. The Colts play the run so soft that it’s enough to make one think the Ravens can win it. I’ve seen that gameplan and it doesn’t necessarily work too well. You still need explosive offense to hang with the Colts. Joe Flacco isn’t the hottest QB in the playoffs but he does have a strong defense to help level things out. Don’t think it’ll be enough. 24-20 Colts

Sunday:

Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings - Tony Romo and the Boys come out fast once again taking the crowd out of it a little. Jason Garrett has proven to me that he can take advantage of a team’s weakness and exploit it for a balanced attack. The key for the Cowboys offense should be either Marion Barber’s rest for his homecoming or Tashard Choice and the Razorcat.

This would be the game to try and unleash the Razorcat. Once again I don’t wanna see anything horribly cute like that double reverse with Austin. That was just messed up. If Felix were to pitch it you’d want it to be to Tony Romo who would have Miles wide open down the middle of the field. But yes please, let’s have some variation from Tashard running strong-side behind Leonard Davis.

The Vikings don’t really scare me offensively. Adrian Peterson does too much dancing through the holes to ever work against Bradie James and Kieth Brooking. Getting on the edge against Ware and Spencer? Uhhh I don’t think so. Now he’ll probably get his share of cut-back creases that he hits with authority for a 15 yard gain. But can the Vikings passing game do enough to make the ‘Backers not stay at home on the cutbacks?

I don’t believe the Vikings and Favre can. Sidney Rice & Percy Harvin scare me no more than DeSean Jackson & Jermey Maclin, or Steve Smith & Mushin Muhammad, or Branden Marshall & Eddie Royal, or Donald Driver & Greg Jennings, or Vincent Jackson & Malcom Floyd, or Colston & Everyone Else. If points come in the passing game then Dallas just shut down some of the NFL’s best duo’s keeping all of those units under 21 points. To be fair I kept Steve Smith & Mario Manningham off the list but only since the scores were skewed by too many non-offensive TDs/points or virtually non-offensive TDs/points were scored on behalf of the Giants…INT off the heel, fumble on the kickoff return, a punt return TD, etc.

 24-17 Cowboys

New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers – The Chargers should have every advantage. A young team with a rookie QB making a cross-country trip to play in a hostile environment 2 weeks in a row? This is a QB league and while Sanchez is returning to SoCal I don’t think he’s quite ready to out-duel Philip Rivers. 28-17 Chargers

Who Hotter Than Romo?

There’s no one  playing better QB in the NFL than Tony Romo. If you were to give INTs to WRs for tipping a pass then Romo would have 13 TDs and 0 INTs since Thanksgiving. He’d have a few more TDs if Jason Witten hadn’t become Michael “Get Caught at the 1″ Irvin all the sudden.

Favre did put together a more impressive streak to start the season. In his first 11 games he had 22 TDs and 3 INTs. But in typical Old Favre Fashion he’s faded late in the season. How many years in a row has Favre’s season ended on an interception? Kept the Jets outta the playoffs. His INT setup the Giants game winning FG on their way to the Superbowl. I wanna say it happened in the year before that and it kept them outta the playoffs or somethin that was supposed to be meaningful. But the point is that it’s been a long while since Favre was making plays with his arm in January.

Speaking of fading, people look at Jared Allen’s season stats and believe he must’ve had an All-Pro season. But in 8 games this year he didn’t record a sack. Six of those coming from the last 10. And in the 2nd half of the season he’s only recorded 4 of his 14.5 sacks.

This will be Flozell’s first time against Allen and I expect Flo to do pretty well. Flo’s worst game came against that crazy quick and small Doomerville….who ended up abusing many a Left Tackle this season. Flo can handle bigger and more brutish than speedy and shifty rushers. If Flo gets his hands on you then most likely you’re done for the play.

That will be very key to the OL this week. If Adams can handle Allen the rest of the line can pinch on the Williams Wookies who seem to have faded a lil too. Colombo can certainly block down Ray Edwards, with Witten’s help, allowing Davis to push over a Williams and then pull out onto Chad Greenway with Felix blazing up right behind him.

Even if Jared Allen does start getting the better of Flo just throw in another TE. Jason Garrett ain’t afraid to call a pass play with 2 or even 3 TEs on the field so whatcha wanna do? I know what they wanna do.

The Vikings, who have had trouble with TEs this year, will look at #82 and make absolutely sure he won’t beat them. MartyB, this is  YOUR time to shine. They’ll be scared of Austin too meaning that there will be a lot of space for Marty to work with. Be expecting the ball every pass play bro!! See what Romo is seeing, get there, and then let your atheleticism dominate. The Vikings can’t match up with you without freeing something up for Witten or Austin.

Special Special Teams

One big reason why the defense has been so stellar the past month is because of the Cowboys kicking game. In the last 46 opponents drives 30 of them have started no further than their own 20. Having a long field behind the defense gives them all that much more confidence. The defense can play aggressive when they know giving up a 15 yarder isn’t the end of the world just yet.

David Buehler and Mat McBriar have been unsung heroes of the team. They’ve faced some of the NFL’s best return specialists and completely shut them down. Countless times Dallas has won the battle of field position thanks to their legs. And I expect Percy Harvin to become frustrated in the return game.

Meanwhile, Ryan Longwell and Chris Kluwe, should give Felix & Crayton one or two chances. You never know that one or two chances can decide the game.

The Vikes are Done!!

The Vikings have resorted to trash talking in order to get themselves motivated. Sorry, but when you’re main source of motivation is talking trash you’ve already lost. I see the Vikings players tryin to pump themselves up by calling themselves “blue collar” and going up against “the man”.

What that sounds like to me is some denial. Much like when DeSean Jackson was talkin about how scared the Cowboys were. But the only player that seemed scared, not counting Donovan McNabb who was under duress the entire game, was D-Jax.

Sorry Vikings but ya’ll ain’t blue-collar. No matter how many times ya’ll say it to try and convince yourselves it just ain’t true. Ya’ll are nuthin but smoke and mirrors. And here’s why.

Adrian Peterson. The pundits of the NFL talk about AP like he were a god among men…the Hercules of the NFL. But he’s an average RB at best. He’s only really dominated 1 game this year and that was opening day against the pathetic BROWNS. He fumbles more than a stutterer attempting a tongue twister at full speed. He’s no threat as a pass catcher. “All Day” Peterson ain’t even close to “All Day”. This year he only had three 100 yard games (Browns, Ravens, Lions).

Brett Favre. It’s real easy to look like an MVP when you’ve been in the league forever and half your schedule is against pathetic secondaries like the Lions, Bears, Rams, Browns, Giants, etc. Seriously, Favre should’ve had about 45 TD passes this season. I gaurantee you that if Peyton Manning had played Favre’s schedule that he would’ve had 40+ TDs and maybe even gotten his single season TD record back that Tom Brady stole. I don’t believe it’s coincidence that Favre looks like a has-been-never-was when his team played against a defense with a decent-to-good secondary with a front seven that can pressure the QB.

Vikings Defense. More smoke and mirrors here. Their run defense isn’t all that…especially late in the season when Cedric Benson rushed for 96 yards on 16 carries or Jonathan Stewart breaking the 100 yard mark on them. They even allowed Detriot Lions’ Kevin Smith to rush for almost 4.0 yards per carry in 2 games. And the Lions may have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. I haven’t even gotten to their secondary which is almost non-existant. Only 2 playoff teams allowed more passing TDs than the Vikings and both of them are one-and-done (Packers & Eagles). The secondary gives up the most yards per pass attempt of all the playoff teams. They give up way too many big plays (9 plays of 40+ yards) and the Saints & Cardinals are the only playoff teams to give up more.

Smoke and Mirrors. When you breakdown the Vikings that’s all you got. There’s very little substance to them. If a mullet is truly “business in the front and party in the back” then Jared Allen is gonna have to shave his head because there’s not going to be any reason to party.
